Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings

Little girl receiving dental exam

We strongly suggest that children of all ages attend at least two checkups and cleanings a year (or one every six months on average) here at our dental office so that we can properly guide the development of their smiles and stop any problems in their tracks early on. During their comprehensive examination, we’ll review every aspect of their oral health (including each tooth, the gums, the bite, the jaw, and more) visually and use digital X-rays to see underneath the surface as well. Our doctors will be happy to answer any questions you or your child may have during this time and create personalized treatment plans to address instances of discomfort, injury, or decay right away.

Cleanings are also a very important part of regular checkups! Because children are still learning how to brush and floss properly, bacteria-filled plaque and tartar are more likely to make a home in their smile. Our talented hygienists can get rid of these substances and also provide fun, educational instructions for brushing and flossing at home as well!

Lip & Tongue Tie Treatment

a nursing mother holding her infant

Lip and tongue ties can impact your baby’s development starting at their nursing habits and weight gain through the formation of breathing disorders and speech impairments as they age. That’s why our team at Midland Kid’s Dentist offers soft tissue laser frenectomies as treatments. By freeing their tongue or lips from overgrown frenum, we can help your child gain complete mobility of their mouth.

Dental Sealants

Closeup of child's healthy smile

The back teeth (premolars and molars) are likely spots for food and decay to gather because they have deep, hard-to-reach grooves – thankfully, dental sealants can provide a helpful hand in keeping these areas safer for our young patients. The sealant is applied directly to the chewing surfaces of the teeth during a quick and virtually painless procedure, essentially providing a tough barrier that keeps cavity-causing elements out. Your child’s sealants should last for multiple years, but if they experience damage or wear, we can easily replace them.

Mouthguards

Does your child suffer from oral pain caused by bruxism (teeth grinding)? Do they regularly participate in sporting events where they’re likely to come in contact with hard surfaces or other people? In these situations, it’s important for them to wear a mouthguard that keeps their growing smile safe from harm. At Midland Kid’s Dentist, our doctors can design a custom-made model that fits comfortably, feels secure, and provides excellent protection.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Child receiving dental screening

While oral cancer is thankfully a very rare condition in children, there’s still a small possibility that your son or daughter may fall victim to it – thankfully, our doctors are skilled in spotting tell-tale signs! We perform an oral cancer screening as part of most regular exams, carefully inspecting the mouth for thickened skin, white or red spots, suspicious sores, and other symptoms that may point towards the presence of cancerous cells. We’ll be sure to raise the red flag right away if any true abnormalities are discovered so that they can be properly diagnosed and treated as soon as possible!

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a valuable mineral that can strengthen tooth enamel and aid in the development of healthier, less cavity-prone teeth over time – that’s why children need regular exposure to it through drinking tap water and using fluoridated toothpaste. Unfortunately, the rise in popularity of bottled water has caused many young patients to miss out on these beneficial effects! Our team may recommend additional fluoride applications during regular appointments if your son or daughter is struggling with tooth decay more than normal.
